Teasing it up with Tisdale

Glenn Harris / Photorazzi

Ashley Tisdale Hairstyle photo1 For any of you who haven’t seen the movie Highschool Musical yet, it is never too late, get it rented at your local DVD library. Not only is it filled with songs, dance and of course love, but it also carries one of this year hottest trends for young and fresh hairstyles. Ashley Tisdale has it all! Her hair can go from freshman to senior all in one year. She has an ever changing look from straight swept locks, to ultra curly twists, and finishing with soft long waves. How does she do it? Well, let me show you step by step.

First Things First:

To mimic this hairdo you have to start with a good haircut. If your hair is cut into the right shape it is easier to get the same look. Ashley Tisdale’s model is a natural inversion layers. For all of you that are thinking WHAT? It basically means that when you ask your stylist for a new look, this is the haircut you would like to ask for.

The Benefits of Natural Inversion Layers...

  • The layers create a more round shape at the crown giving more volume
  • It is point cut through the ends allowing them to fall softer around the length
  • The softer ends allow you to have a sleeker look when straightened and when you want it curly or wavy the less weight through the ends will hold the shape better
  • If your hair is not very thick this style creates more body without taking too much from your baseline

Get a look with that fringe!

Summer 2007 is all about the fringe. Hairstylists this year can’t get enough, and this girl knows how to wear the fringe. Her fringe is cut into a tear drop shape. This means that you can wear it to either side because the middle is slightly longer and the sides are shorter.

Tip:
To get the soft curve around the face and sweep across the forehead, it is all in the blowdry.

Step by Step:

  1. Wash and gently towel dry your hair
  2. Apply a leave in conditioner for wavy hair defining
  3. Begin blasting out the moisture from the hair on low heat. When most of the moisture is out section off your fringe
    Tip: most common mistake
    - Everyone styles their hair and leaves the fringe to the end. Come on girls, this is the part most people see first. Style your fringe first because this is where most of us have whirls, and crowns, and kinks in our hair. If it is left to air dry then it is harder to get the way you want it
  4. With a medium sized round brush start blow drying your fringe all forward
  5. Point the blowdryer down onto the brush. Place the brush under the fringe and slightly roll the brush a half an inch upwards and then follow the stream of air down clean off the ends.
    Tip:
Do not round the brush under through the ends, you’ll end up with a fringe from the 80’s highschool musical!
  6. When it is dry, finger pick it to your desired side with your blowdryer on low, following the direction of the sweep

Musical Waves

Ashley’s non chalant movement in her hair is a common trend for this summer’s hair fashion. It looks great and it covers up the problem of keeping your hair straight and sleek in the summer humidity. It is easy for a stylist to create this look with round brushes, but let’s face it, we don’t have arms in the back of our head. There is however, an easy way to achieve it by yourself but it requires an order from your local Chinese takeout.

Food for thought!

  1. Order your favorite Chinese dish and ask the delivery person to bring along 3 extra sets of chop sticks. While you are waiting for your delivery wash your hair
  2. Towel dry gently removing excess moisture. Apply a curl activating cream through the mid shaft and ends of your hair. Blowdry the hair on low heat, scrunching the ends lightly to the roots
  3. When the hair is almost dry begin taking 2 inch sections from the head. Twist them until they have spiraled up into the root and secure them with a chop stick. Place the chop stick into the knot securing the ends and then back out
  4. After all the hair is fasten, apply your makeup or whatever else needs to be down before you display the finished product. After that, squeeze the twists to see if they are still damp. If so, apply your blowdryer on medium heat and go over each twist until dry
  5. Take out all the chop sticks and put your head upside-down to shake the twists free
  6. When your head is upright, apply a soft shine serum to the ends and separate the twists pulling gently until you have the desired waves
With this look, you will look like a queen! Wear it for your prom, graduation or simply for any party, enjoy!
