Find the right products and love your curly hair!

We're never satisfied are we? People with straight hair often complain that they can't do anything with it and wish it was curly. Natural curly-heads pine for layers that sit flat and yearn for the precision-cuts that only people blessed with straight hair can have.

Goodbye to frizz!

Curly, color treated and ethnic hair are all prone to frizzing in humid or wet weather. With Sedu, you can say goodbye to frizz forever! Sedu keeps your hair frizz-free, whether you choose to Sedu it straight, curly or wavy!

Does your style cut it?

A great haircut is key for hair to look its' best. But many people with curly hair find it difficult to get a good haircut and find that it looks ok when they leave the salon – but they can never re-create it at home.

How to get the best out of your hairdresser:

1. Get your hair into tip-top condition. Use a deep hair mask at home before you get your hair cut (or colored).

2. Book a consultation with your stylist and ask as many questions as you can to avoid mistakes. You need to be sure that you're getting the right sort of cut for the texture of your hair and your face shape.
Ask your stylist to teach you how to re-create the look at home and ask for advice on the best products. Make sure the recommendations cover products that aren't just available in the salon!

Here's the low-down on getting the right products for your curly hair.

Ask a professional!

Book a consultation at a good salon and ask to see the stylist who specializes in curly hair. The stylist will be able to give you advice that will specifically help the current condition of your hair and take into account its' length, texture and thickness.

Decide what you want.

Do you want to bring out the best in your natural curls or do you hate them and want your hair smooth, straight and silky? Either way – having good condition helps!

Get your hair in great condition!

Naturally curly hair is usually dry and this goes double if it's color treated or damaged. Be sure to use a good moisturizing shampoo and conditioner.
Tip:  Many people with curly hair only need to wash their hair every other day to avoid stripping out the natural oils.

Give your hair a treat!

If your hair is noticeably dry and frizzy, or if you live in a cold or dry climate, give your hair a weekly deep-conditioning treatment. Apply the conditioner and then wrap your hair in cling wrap or a warm towel and relax with a magazine or your favorite TV program!

Make a deep-treatment at home  with equal parts of honey and vegetable oil – yes, I know it sounds yukky but it does the trick! Mix the honey and oil together, rub it thoroughly into your hair and put on a shower hat. Leave it in for 20-30 minutes and then wash, condition and style as normal and see the difference!

Speak the language!

There are so many bewildering terms used in hairstyling now. Here's a quick run down of the words you'll come across: Curly Hair Care Products photo4

Hair serum

Serum can be put onto the hair prior to blow drying it straight. Serums are usually silicone based and specially designed to lock moisture into the hair. This reduces frizz and can help to produce silky curls.

Mousse

Will help to give you softly held ringlets. Be careful to use a mousse that's specifically for curly hair – using any other kind can give you bulky, 'puffy-looking' hair. This is because regular products tend to have alcohol in them, which is very drying for curly hair – so look for alcohol-free products.

Gel

Massaged into damp hair, this can give a moisture barrier to cut down the frizz and give you a chosen degree of hold. Too much can make your hair stiff or sticky so only use a tiny amount. You can always add more – but taking it out means another shampoo!

Pomade

People of color often use this to give shine to dry, curly hair. Again, go easy!
Stop:  Keep pomade away from the scalp – it can encourage acne.

Shine spray

Give your hair a healthy shine once the styling is completed. You can use a spray-on product or warm a few drops of serum in your palms and spread it gently through the hair – not too much or it will look greasy.

Save money

It's tempting to buy salon products but drugstores also sell great brands for curly hair. Just because it's more expensive, doesn't always make it a better product. Try out a variety and see what works best on your hair!

If you're disappointed with a color...  it could be your curly hair that's making it look darker than you expected. This is because the cuticles of curly hair stay more open and this diffuses light.
Straight hair – and hair that has waves and curls created with Sedu - has smooth cuticles which reflect light and make the color shine. So don't give up on your color – Sedu it back to life! You'll be amazed at the difference!
