How to Create Cool Hair Color Effects – Step by Step

Now that HairstyleCITY has brought us the easy to apply highlights extensions, the possibilities are endless. You can achieve a unique professionally highlighted look by adding a bit of color to your locks with the new Clip-on Highlights Extensions.

Now that it is simple than ever, it is time to think out of the box and have some fun with it!

I would like to show you three fun and very easy styles that you can do by yourself by following these step by step instructions. These styles will give you the opportunity to show off your new color and look like you have just come out of the hair salon.

Glamorous

1. Apply a light hold hair spray all over clean and dry hair
2. Take one inch sections starting at the nape and wind with a medium barrel curling iron or flat iron
3. Pin each curl to your head. When the last curl is pinned go back to the first pin and start removing them all
4. Shake out the curls and lightly finger pick them with a shine wax or a pomade massaged through your hands
5. Use the same iron to curl your individual highlights hair extensions and then fasten them in place. (Watch our demonstration VIDEO to learn how to apply them)
6. To give some volume and lift, back comb your bang area and then smooth out with a flat brush
7. Take two pieces above each ear and twist together until the strands meet in the back of the head
8. Fasten with a bobby pin or use a decorative pin for added fun

Funky

1. Wash and towel dry your hair. Apply a small amount of straitening balm
2. Blow dry the hair using a paddle brush to achieve a straight sleek look
3. Mist the hair lightly with a heat protector and section the hair. Go through all the sections with a flat iron, make sure all the hair is finished to a nice smooth texture
4. Take all the highlights extension pieces and smooth them with your flat iron
5. Apply your highlights extensions in groups of five in the mid section of your hair. This will create a block color in the hair. (Watch our demonstration VIDEO to learn how to create that color effect)
6. Let the hair flow free or pin just one side up to allow the funky color to shine through

Carefree

1. Wash your hair with a volumizer shampoo and apply a coin size amount of smoothing lotion to the hair
2. Blow dry the hair using a large round brush. Section the hair into small manageable sections, and smooth the hair through with your round brush.
   Always point the nozzle of your blow-dryer in the direction that your brush is moving; this will give bounce and leave the hair smoother
3. When the hair is completely dry, massage a small amount of shine pomade through your hands and glide it over your hair. Start at the back of your head and work through to the front
4. Take all your highlights pieces and wind them around a flat iron or medium size curling iron. When each piece is lightly waved, pull on the ends to softened the bounce out of each strand
5. Section a one inch section of hair from recession to recession of your head, and then clip away. Apply the highlights around the perimeter of your section. (Watch our demonstration VIDEO to learn how to apply them)
6. Let your clipped off section free and lightly finger pick the hair together. Mist with a medium hold hair spray
7. The colored curls will bounce off your straight locks giving it a more fun textured look
